Accurate Measurement and Configuration of Automotive Exterior Lighting
Photometers and colorimeters for headlamps and exterior lighting
Automotive exterior lighting has developed significantly in recent years with far greater options provided to brands for the quality, responsiveness, and aesthetics of products. Specifying, designing, producing, and approving both functional and effect lighting requires next generation solutions for measurement in development, production, and quality control. Ultimately, external lighting must first and foremost, deliver against safety requirements for headlights, sidelights, fog lights, indicators, brake, and taillights.
New automotive lighting technologies are also revolutionizing road safety. Glare-free high beam lights in HD quality, integration with a variety of sensors. Adaptive headlights (e.g. microAFS LED headlights) afford the driver maximum possible illumination of the travel path whilst avoiding glare to oncoming traffic by dimming the light. Modern versions with pulse-width modulated LEDs or LED modules, as used in ADB headlights, demand extremely short switching cycles for the measurement systems.
Konica Minolta, along with our group companies Radiant Vision Systems and Instrument Systems, produces a range of solutions for measuring lighting and lighting assemblies in development or production environments to ensure that the lighting can be traceably measured to meet standards and deliver a high-quality user experience.
Traceable and trusted solutions for digital luminance data can greatly expedite the process of development, production, and QC testing. Our expert teams can help to implement a system that allows all parties, from equipment manufacturer through to QC, to work in a more streamlined and consistent way. Experience shows that a data driven approach allows supply chains to build relationships based on quality and consistency, reducing subjectivity, and simplifying specification and approval.
Solutions will ensure control of brightness, uniformity, and colour of all exterior lighting assemblies.
Offering customers a global network of sales, support, and expertise, Konica Minolta can deliver tested solutions to customers in the automotive industry. Our network of authorised service facilities provides ongoing maintenance and calibration of devices to minimise downtime and ensure that systems remain traceable throughout their working life.
Benefits
- Accelerate development and control costs with our imaging photometers and imaging colorimeters, high-resolution CCD cameras with specialised software, designed as fully integrated solutions for improving R&D, quality control, and production operations.
- Evaluate individual LED performance and identify failures capturing the illumination distribution in a single measurement, then analysing multiple criteria using our extended software packages.
- Master the challenges of μLED testing: temperature dependency and high measuring accuracy in fast production cycles.
Instruments
Instrument Systems DSP 200 Photometer
Ultra-fast photometer measures illuminance and luminous intensity, ideal for spatial light distributions of headlights with a goniometer. Its exceptionally fast sampling rate ensures precise measurement of pulse-width modulated light sources with extremely short duty cycles.
Applications
2D Measurement of microAFS
With the spectrally enhanced LumiTop 4000 2D system, Instrument Systems offers an ideal measurement solution for testing μLED arrays in AFS applications. The 12 MP camera simultaneously measures the individual LEDs of the array, and due to its high measurement speed, it avoids the temperature-dependence of high-performance LEDs. In combination with a high-end CAS 140D spectroradiometer, the system – calibrated to luminance (in cd/m2) – delivers highly accurate measured values. In particular, it is excellently suited to the quality control of the uniformity, brightness and colour of μLED arrays.
Measurement of Headlights, Brake lamps, and Taillights
Radiant ProMetric® system allows users to inspect headlamps and taillights for luminance and colour uniformity, and for luminous intensity distribution to evaluate individual LED performance and identify failures. The system captures the illumination distribution in a single measurement, then analyses multiple criteria using the PM-HL™ headlamp evaluation module, designed specifically for headlamp evaluation.
Measurement of Low Beam Headlighting System
The illuminance meter T-10A can be configured in a matrix to evaluate the illuminance and light distribution of exterior lights as part of safety analysis of a vehicle's lower beam headlamps. The testing installation can utilize a single-point measurement or a multi-point measurement with multiple receptor heads.
